British Retail Consortium Global Standards for Food Safety

The BRCGS was founded in 1996 by retailers who wanted to harmonise food safety standards across the supply chain. And the BRCGS Global Food Safety Standard has set the benchmark for over 20 years.

Today the BRCGS are globally recognised across both food and non-food categories and operate the most rigorous third party certification scheme of its type. Their message is clear . . . they have the most rigorous schemes and the highest trained auditors giving the best results possible.

The standard is constantly evolving to protect the consumer. It was the first standard to be GFSI benchmarked, as well as introduce food safety culture requirements, define food fraud, and reduce audit burden through additional modules.

Developed with input from industry, it provides a framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality and quality, and the operational controls for these criteria in the food and food ingredient manufacturing, processing and packing industry.
